Designed and promoted by Artistic Director Nima Kiann, Les Ballets Persans introduced the European Youth Dance Project (EYDP) in the company's fall season of 2007. EYDP is an artistic integration and peace project engaging young dancers from various countries and cultures. Les Ballets Persans offers through this undertaking a unique opportunity to young dancers from all around the world to take part in creating a repertoire based on and influenced by an ancient rich culture. Participation in the EYDP is for many of these dancers a first introduction and get-to-know opportunity to an Eastern culture. Developing constantly, EYDP aims to offer young dancers full participation and experience in dance productions and thus preparing them for their professional career. Within their engagements, dancers will have the opportunity of performing in different styles interpretating roles from Les Ballets Persans' ordinary repertoire created mainly by the Company's principal choreographer Nima Kiann but also dancing in new choreographies created exclusively for EYDP. Turquoise Land – Dream of Peace, a work based on classical ballet technique, was the first neo-classical ballet being created for this project followed by the contemporary ballets such as Symphony of Elegy in Green and dance and video installation of Hanging Gardens of Lost Dreams. Les Ballets Persans has created an international network to increase the opportunities for young dancers to engage in the profession and to take part in a wide range of high quality dance. When carrying out the EYDP, productions aimed for this undertaking made by Les Ballets Persans are adapted and tailored to the needs of the participants. Les Ballets Persans has created a prospect through the EYDP for young dancers to strengthen their technical abilities, gain useful experience during the process of a professional dance production and build up a much needed foundation for a professional career in a strongly competitive profession. Performed by young dancers for a young public, EYDP is presenting at the end of each season one or more subscribed school presentations and/or open public performances. Performances abroad and international tours are also organized occasionally. Each season of the EYDP includes Master Classes and repertory work. EYDP is dedicated to providing a unique Eastern dance repertoire to young dance talents in Europe. The project's focus incorporates creativity and stage performance to enhance strong technical development and an innate understanding of dance as a performing art. EYDP is creating new partnerships between those providing and supporting dance activities for young people through working across the arts, community, education, and youth.
